The Hollywood Reporter mentioned as early as May that Activision was working on deals regarding a “Call Of Duty” movie in order to boost sales of its hit video game. In spite of such rumours Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick has refused to deny or affirm that a deal has been reached to turn the popular first person shooter game into a movie. This trademark filing however does seem to confirm that plans are underway for a film.

Activision – a US based Game publisher revealing that 2009 first-quarter revenue tripled to $981 million and net income was up considerably from $43 million to $189 million as compared to the 2008 quarter. The release in November of Call of Duty 6 Modern Warfare 2 will boost 2009 sales even more and is believed to be the reason for initiating a movie deal to coincide with the popularity of its video game release.

On November 10th 2009, Call of Duty will be available on each of the leading game formats. Nintendo’s Wii will offer Call of Duty using the Modern Warfare subtitle, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Reflex. Nintendo DS’s will use the moniker Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Mobilized. Infinity Ward’s release will be called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 for both the Microsoft Xbox 360 and Sony’s PlayStation 3 (PS3). At the moment it appears that the PC release called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, won’t be available until November 24th 2009.

There has not been an official reason given as yet but suspicion is that manufacturing delays are to blame. It is also possible that the delay is necessary to counteract piracy issues – a common problem with large scale releases as seen with Image Red Faction: Guerrilla and Capcom’s 2009 big three releases. Publishers are under pressure to ship sufficient quantities of their titles to meet demand for the upcoming Christmas season and given that Modern Warfare 2 will sell more in retail outlets for game consoles than online for the PC market it’s probable that Activision-Blizzard will delay the PC release in order to meet the demand for retail consoles. In truth fans of this game will not have a problem spending a few extra dollars given the popularity of the first edition. The game is built by Infinity Ward and published by Activision.

Activision UK managing director Andrew Brown defends the decision to price Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 at a higher price stating,

“This is an industry where things cost a lot to develop and it’s a risky business. We talk about building franchises; it is very expensive to do this from every respect. What we are finding is that for the right products, if you look at the time someone will spend playing something and compare it to something else, people are saying it’s worth it.” See full interview on MCV

You face a terrorist force dedicated to changing the lines of today’s modern warfare. You can play this game as a single player or with the help of others in the cooperative Spec-Ops mode. There is also the enhanced death-match warfare which is played on a variety of Modern Warfare 2 maps.
